Nike and Nash Green Shoe

April 10th, 2008 admin Posted in Green Space, Sports No Comments »

May be a sign of things to come from shoe producers such as Nike! Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns wore his new Trash Talk runners at NBA all-star weekend events. The shoe is made of recycled materials. The upper shoe is made from leather and synthetic leather waste from factory floors. The mid-sole is made from scrap foam from factory floors, and the outsole uses toxin reduced environmentally friendly rubber. The shoe laces and sock liners also follow environmentally friendly guidlines.

Nash has been a proponent of going green in order to reduce his carbon footprint. As for the shoe Nash states, “I think it’s great for creating awareness, and whether this shoe goes a long way toward curbing global warming or not, it’s the idea. It also sets a precedent for the future, not only for Nike but for other companies to explore conserving, reusing and recycling.” (Canwest Global, March 29, 2008)

NikeBiz website article displays the shoe and more background to the story.

Nike. iPods. Running

March 31st, 2008 admin Posted in Running, Sports, iTunes No Comments »

Nike+ is a newer runner designed to work with an iPod to improve training by measuring pace, distance and overall time. It can be integrated with your running tunes on your Nano.

A Suggestion: do not hold the Nano while listening to music and running as your shoulder(s) will get stiff causing unnecessary muscle fatigue. After your run you can upload the data by plugging the data sensor in your shoe into the Nano and then uploading the info your computer - Mac or PC compatible.

There are a variety of Nike runner models. Typically the runner is purchased and the iPod specially designed to fit into the shoe is sold separately. BUT you need the Nike+ shoe.

Look for the + mark near the Nike name or runner name. Al in all, a useful replacement for the pedometers or clunky watches and satellite-type pace trackers.
